Good Morning Creative Friends! Today I am playing around with some new PTI stamps and getting a jump on my Easter cards. Every once in awhile, I enjoy making a "shabby/vintage style" card. Even though I have a Fine Art background and design experience, making cards is often a challenge for me. This particular style seems the most natural and easy. I like this style because it not only has a sentiment but evokes a nostalgic feeling as well.

My card today is for two challenges. The Patterned Paper challenge at Lily Pad Cards, and the current monthly challenge at Hero Arts.

Papertrey Ink 5th Anniversary

How cool is it that PTI gave us some freebie images to play with for their 2nd day anniversary challenge. They are all so sweet, but this whimsical little bird image from Heather Nichols spoke to me. It just called out for some crazy stitching and pinking shears!

Since I like to sew, I am thinking this would be adorable printed on actual fabric for a quilt or baby project. Hmmm, gives me some ideas. Later, I couldn't possibly put that idea together in one day!

We Are Family

I am happy to say that thanks to my wonderful family and friends, and my faith in God, I am moving on into the future. My Mother's service was so uplifting. So many gentle friends were near. I thought I would share a photo of my daughter, Sarah, and me. We took a walk on the C & O Canal this past weekend. Nothing like a little fresh air to revive you!

On Sunday January 22nd, my Mother passed away. I was able to be with her, and it was peaceful. I will miss her, but I am so relieved to know that she is no longer suffering. She was 92 years old and lived a long and full life. It has been a difficult year for me, but God has given me the strength to persevere through this challenging part of my life. I wanted to share a picture of my Mother. This photo was taken on her 90th birthday, and this is the way I want to remember her forever.

I have another card today for the current monthly Hero Arts challenge. I used some of the same stamps that I used in my last post, but a different design.

The three squares were embossed in clear and colored with distress inks. I also sprayed them with Glimmer Mist, Old Lace. It is a little difficult to see the shimmer in this photo. Also, in this card, the flourish background was stamped over a very soft patterned paper.

Making Valentine cards is my second favorite, after Christmas cards. It gives you the chance to be girly and romantic. My card today is for the current monthly challenge at Hero Arts. I embossed the Floral Brocade stamp in clear and colored with alcohol inks. I like the result, but for the life of me I can not remember what inks I used. When I usually use this type of technique, I get all artsy and messy and tend to go with the flow. I really need to start writing this kind of information down for future use.

Faces 101

Today is the first class of Faces 101 with Carla Sonheim. I am happy to be drawing again, and these classes do bring out the best in me. I thought I would share one of my assignments.

This is a drawing of Carla done with my left hand. I think it kind of looks like her. I did a second drawing of my neighbor, but she said she would kill me if I posted it on any online galleries. LOL!

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas

December is my favorite month, and I love the the chilly, festive feel in the air. This past year has been a struggle and an education for me. Whatever the future may bring, I hope and pray that I never loose sight of the wonder of this time of year. It is cold, creative, colorful and spiritual. What more could you want. I am full of emotions: sadness, joy, memories, laughing, crying, friendship... and most important the future.

In January, I am so happy to be taking another online drawing class given by Carla Sonheim.
She is so inspiring, and I so desperately need to go to my inner creative space. I am looking forward to the challenge.

If I do not post for a while, it is because I am being quiet and reflective. Something that I need to do from time to time.

I wish all of my creative friends a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Best Thanksgiving Ever!

I had such a wonderful time in NYC. The weather was incredible. Sunny and blue, blue sky. I road the Vamoose bus on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and it took five hours. Lots of traffic and a little cloudy, but boy did things turn around on Thursday!

This is me and my daughter, Sarah, on her friend's rooftop watching the Macy's Thanksgiving parade. We had a spectacular view without the crowds!

Another view from the roof. The Hudson River and the NYC skyline never looked so good! Later that evening, we had a delicious potluck dinner with more of Sarah's friends. The menu included truffle infused mashed potatoes. Need I say more. . . .

On Friday we had a yummy lunch at Sarah's favorite Indian restaurant and did a lot of walking. To end out my marvelous visit, we went here....

A trip to NYC would not be complete without going to the Christmas show at Radio City! It truly was a magical time. I was so relaxed and slept like a baby. I think I really needed this trip. It was perfect!

Gluten Free Zucchini Muffins

As you may already know, I will be spending the Thanksgiving holiday with my daughter in NYC. I had to bake her favorite GF muffins. They really are quite tasty, if I do say so myself. I made 2 dozen so I could have some as well.

I have included the recipe if anyone is interested!

1 cup brown rice flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1/4 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

1/2 cup sugar

1/2 cup vegetable oil

2 eggs
1/2 cup GF cereal (GF granola or nutty flax are two of my favs)
1 1/2 teaspoon grated orange peel
1 teaspoon vanilla flavoring
1 cup grated zucchini
1/2 cup chopped nuts

1. Combine flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Set aside.

2. In large mixing bowl, beat sugar, oil and eggs until well combined. Stir in cereal, peal and vanilla.

3. Add flour mixture, zucchini and nuts. Mix well. Pour into lined muffin tin.

4. Bake at 325 F for 35 minutes. Cool completely. YIELD: 12 servings

I will be visiting my daughter, Sarah, over Thanksgiving and I want to take her something special. She will not be home at Christmas time this year so we will celebrate a little early. The November challenge at Hero Arts is all about gift wrapping and my new project fits perfectly.

I used the Hero Arts digi kit, Stocking Cap Snowman. The digi kit was perfect for this project because you can resize them to fit anything. I used a paper bag from the wine store and fed it through my printer. I must admit, this process was a little tricky. I jammed my poor printer a couple times before the finished product. My final solution was to use painter's tape and tape the bag to a sheet of legal size paper. YEAH, it worked! For the tag, I erased one button on the snowman in PhotoShop. It made more space for a greeting. The card was a lot easier, and I may be making a few more since I am behind in my Christmas cards. Just print on craft and stamp a greeting over the image. Easy, peasy!

I have one more card to enter in the current Hero Arts October challenge. I used a different sketch this time. A while ago, I was the lucky winner of a 90 minute scramble on the Hero Arts blog. I won this fabulous digital stamp, Season's Greetings Collage. I am finally giving it a try. I printed the image on canvas and lightly colored with water colors. I am happy with the result. I also used the Nordic Holiday papers from Basic Grey. I love these vintage papers, and they look perfect with this stamp.

It seems like this year has been full of life challenging events for me. Today was yet another, and I am sorry that all my posts lately are so full of sadness. I had to put my 16 year old dachshund, Jenny, to sleep today. She was diagnosed with "Cushings Syndrome" in January of this year, and her symptoms had gotten worse. I am sad, but I know that I gave her the best care any dog would want. She in return gave me unconditional love for years and years. If you followed my blog, earlier, you know that she was featured in posts, layouts, cards and illustrations. I will miss her, but time heals all. Once again, thank you all for your friendship and support. This too will pass, and I will experience joy and creativity again soon.

It Feels Like Fall Today

Hello creative friends. The weather is just delightful right now. A cool breeze with temperatures in the 70's. I am so finished with extreme heat. I still have no new cards to share. I am definitely in a creative slump, and the mojo is missing. I am, however, not as sad as I had been feeling. Time heals all wounds. A little vodka doesn't hurt either. My daughter, Sarah, was recently home for a visit, and it lifted my spirits considerably. She also came with me to visit my Mother, and it was helpful to have a different perspective.

She took this photo with her phone. I love it!

We had a lot of fun together. We went to dinner, and I had my first, "cosmopolitan." Quite tasty!

Oh I wish I had a lovely card to share today

As many of you know, my Mother has been in hospice care for a while now. I am trying so hard to find the goodness in this experience. I want to be creative, but when my heart is aching, it is not easy. I also hesitate in sharing a post with such sadness, but if my heart is aching, this is all I have to offer. My family was always very optimistic, and never talked about end of life care. My Mother is stable and resting well, but what does this all mean? Yes I have the means to go on, but if I no longer have the family that I love, what good is it? As you can surely tell, I am feeling sad today. My Mother is so thin and frail that I hardly recognize her. She does, however, seem to recognize me. It is my inherent nature to be optimistic, so I know that this sadness will pass. I am hopeful that my next post will be much more uplifting and inspiring, and surely share some new creativity! I love my creative friends!

Good morning "Creative Friends." My card today is for the current Hero Arts monthly challenge, Creatures, Cards for Kids and Making a Scene. I am continuing with Christmas cards. I like this snowy little scene, however it so difficult to photograph. I was going for a cloudy night look, but the white distressed edges are not showing too well.

The angel image was a gift from my sweet friend, Tina. Unfortunately, I do not know the origin. She sent me several stamped images, and I scanned them into Photoshop to resize. If you recognize the manufacturer, please let me know. I then colored the image with my Prismacolor pencils and embossed the ornaments. Additional sparkle was added with a Sakura glitter pen.

I discovered this lovely blog, A Day For Daisies. They have the most adorable, whimsical digital stamps. I decided to enter their weekly Challenge #21. You must use one of their stamps, and they have provided the sweetest freebie to use for this challenge. I love it! The challenge is to use pastels, but NO pink. I kept my card as pastel as I could, and her little face is colored in light peach, NOT pink. The clouds are stamped in milled lavender, NOT pink!

My Sad Good By

I said good by to my family home today, My family lived in that house and neighborhood for 50 years. My cousin Tom and his wife, Valerie, came to help, in spite of their recent loss. When Tom was passing through the dining room, he said he smelt the pipe tobacco of Uncle Bob. I smelt it too. For a brief moment the fragrant smell of my Father's pipe went through the room. It gave us all a chill. With that, I must say that life does go on. Thank goodness for that.

I need your prayers once again

As many of you already know, I am in the process of selling my family home. This past weekend my children came to help as well as my cousin, Tom and his wife. We experienced bittersweet memories of the many good times together. They were both so helpful in loading the furniture and items for me to move to my own home. I will be forever grateful. The tragic side of this story happened the next day. My cousin and his wife lost their 21 year old daughter in a car accident. Our family is devastated. I am numb. With tears in my eyes, I ask that you please pray for my family.

Life Changes

I have been experimenting with stamping and making cards for almost two years now. I am reflecting back to this card I made in 2010. It was for a very good cause. Operation Write Home. I discovered this organization from following the Hero Arts Blog. I have discovered a great deal from this blog. I have made many friends. I have learned so many techniques. This sentiment is a truly important one. Make every day count. I have no cards, sewing or creations to share today, just a bit of wisdom. I am currently involved with the settlement of my family home, and will not be posting a great deal of creative items for a while. I am just too busy moving furniture. I want you all to know how much I value your comments, kindness, friendship and inspiration. I will return in a while with renewed creativity.

I have been wanting to experiment with my new PTI stamp set, Friendship Jar, and it seemed perfect for a Mother's Day card. I also discovered that Wee Memories is having a paper piecing challenge this week so I will be entering my card in the Scrappy Saturday Challenge #54.

I used my Prismacolor pencils over the PTI Bitty Dot Basics paper, and elevated the two tulips in front. I left some of the white paper showing when piecing, so the flowers would stand out against the background. I also added a little random shine with White Pearls embossing powder. Unfortunately it is not photographing so well. I thought the green vellum over the jar gave the effect of green glass. I am happy with the way this turned out.

Memory Lane

It has been almost a month since my last post, and I wanted to give my friends an update of my status. I have been making great progress cleaning out my Mother's home and getting it ready to sell. This time has been filled with memories and tears. As I peal away the layers of my childhood home, I am blessed with many happy memories. I have realized that it is time for change, and hope that this place I called home for so many years will find a new family to make new memories. I have not had a lot of creative energy lately, but hope to find some time soon to make a Mother's day card. My Mother has always been the greatest fan of my work, so I must continue to impress her as long as I can. Blessings to all my Creative Friends and hope you are well.

I was inspired by the fresh, spring colors that Embellish Magazine picked for their challenge, and it gave me a chance to use the beautiful lace trim that my dear friend Tina gave me. Doesn't this image just whisper spring?

I do enjoy a sketch challenge too. It gives you the framework for your starting point. Together with the gorgeous colors above, I was quite inspired. Here is the Hero Arts sketch I chose.

My card today is for the monthly Hero Arts challenge. I chose the sketch below. I think my card could easily be used for a man. We all know how much men love to talk!!!!!!

I used all Hero Arts stamps, and the scallop border is a rickrack die from Papertrey Ink. It seemed to mimic the wavy phone cord, and gave the wood grain a whole new look. I like the retro feel.

More good advice, don't you agree? My card today is for two challenges. The Moxie Fab Tuesday Trigger: Farm Fresh, and the Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #8: Blending Techniques.

I was inspired by the graphic background, texture and the simple images. I masked the window background with Frisket Film, usually used for air brushing. I then used Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Pumice Stone for the shading. I stamped the Hero Arts, Stencil Art, on fabric interfacing. It is not as heavy as felt and gave me the see-thru look I was going for. I have recently discovered the versatility of this lovely Hero Arts stamp set, and have been using it often. I also added sewing machine stitching for a little more detail. My new PTI stamp set, Friendship Jar, was also perfect for this challenge. This set is so fun and adorable. You will probably be seeing a lot more of this one too!

The Summers on 49th Street - Chapter Three

I guess I have skipped ahead a few years, but I have a memory to convey that is relevant to my current situation. My grandmother, Jessie, became ill in her eighties. I remember my family telling me that she would be moved to a nursing home. Both of my parents worked, and no one was able to take care of her. I also remember my mother telling me that Jessie said, "If you leave me here, I will die." Two days later, I received a call while in college that my grandmother had passed. Today, I have decided that my mother must be in long term care, and I will be selling her home.

I have spoken with family members about things and furniture they might like to have. My daughter, Sarah, told me once again, that she would like to have the iron bed that I currently have in my own home. She said, "After all why will you need four different beds?" This iron bed is the one I currently sleep in. I love this bed, and for the life of me, I could not really answer her. It belonged to my grandmother, Jessie, and it was always kept in her third floor attic. I remember one summer, when it was quite warm, my sister Marcia and I, and Jessie all slept in that iron bed in the attic. Since I was the smallest at the time, I had to sleep along the bottom, while the other two had either side. It was crowded, but we thought it was an adventure. Her attic had stars painted on the ceiling, and it was a magical moment I will always remember. My sister, too, remembers that night. I guess I answered my own question. That old iron bed was The Summers on 49th Street.

Sip and Relax

Good advice, don't you think? Relaxing is something I need to do more of these days. Creating is also another soothing activity. I am so grateful to have a little more time to create another card. It seems that I am grateful for a number of things lately. I have learned that one should never take anything for granted.

My card is for two challenges. The Make It Monday #5 Challenge at Papertrey Ink. This challenge requires distressed edges, and they have included a terrific video. The second challenge is the Mojo Monday #181 monthly sketch contest. Here is their sketch:

I started with this gorgeous Basic Grey patterned paper. It was already distressed on the edges, and gave me a nice color pallet to pull from. The larger middle panel was stamped with Hero Arts, Daisy Reverse Pattern. It was stamped with Anna Griffin, Shell Pink on a pastel pink scrap of paper. The smaller panel was stamped with Clear and Simple, Wallflowers. It was stamped with Versamark, Spanish Moss on an ivory scrap. The curled flower in the corner is also from Hero Arts, Stencil Art. The adorable little tea pot and sentiment are both from Papertrey Ink, Tea for Two. I also used the coordinating die from PTI. The rick rack die is also from PTI, and the scalloped circle and regular circle are from Nestabilities. All the edges were distressed with Tim Holtz, Tea Dye. Of course I had to add Hero Arts pearls.

You Inspire Me

I started this card a few weeks ago, for two different challenges. This Embellish challenge and this Card Patterns challenge. Unfortunately, as you know, my life got a little complicated so I missed the deadline. I finished the card today and just wanted to share it with you because I think it is so cheerful, especially the colors.

The patterned papers are Bazzill and scraps. I used two Hero Arts stamps, Daisy Reverse Pattern and Friends. Both were stamped with Hero Arts Shadow Ink, Soft Pink. The scallop hearts are from Nestabillities, and the small hearts are the reverse of a Martha Stewart punch. The sentiment die is also from Nestabillities. The smaller scallop border is a Fiskars punch and the larger scallop border die is from Papertry Ink. Added Hero Arts red pearls.

Why is it so difficult to grow old?

I don't have a creative post just yet, but I do have some ideas in mind. Right now so many spiritual thoughts are going around and around in my head. A great weight has been lifted from my shoulders when my Mother entered the rehabilitation facility. She is definitely improving, but one reaches a point in life where there is no going back. She will never be the same as she was years ago, or even one year ago. I truly believe that I have been given a chance for ease and grace into a new chapter of my life. With the help of supportive friends and family, I am able to reach this changing point. If this post sounds sad, it was not meant to be that way at all. I am realizing how important each day should be, and I am so grateful for the God given gift of creativity and the chance to share that creativity.

The Power of Prayer

I want to thank all my lovely friends that have sent prayers for my Mother and family. I have had a very difficult week, but my Mother's condition is improving. She is becoming more aware each day, and is now recovering in a rehabilitation facility. I am taking one day at a time, and I thank God for the strength he has given me to continue. I have not felt like creating right now, but hopefully as time allows, I will get back to what makes me happy. Please continue to keep us in your prayers, as they truly do work. Love to you all.

I Need Your Prayers

I hesitated making this post, but decided it is for the best. I love my creative friends, and I need all your help right now. My 91 year old mother, Maxine, has been hospitalized today. She has had some type of seizure and is in the ICU. Doctor's are still trying to determine the cause of her problem, but regardless it has become a serious issue. After seeing her for two days, she is still not totally responsive. I have prepared for this time in my life, but I am still afraid. I am fortunate that I can be with her for the next few days, and I pray that God will know what is best for her, and my family. I ask that if you read this, please keep my Mother in your prayers. My family will be forever grateful, and I hope to post again soon.

The Sun is Shining Today

It is amazing what a little sunshine will do for one's disposition. I have really been feeling the "winter blues" lately, and today I finally felt inspired to make another card. This one is for the current Hero Arts monthly challenge, Love and Friendship. All you need is love, right?

I used a basic plain white card and masked the heart shape with a Sizzix die. The heart was inked with a combination of Anna Griffin, Shell Pink; and Hero Arts Shadow Ink, Soft Pink. I used two Hero Arts stamps: Stencil Art for the floral area, and Made with Love for the sentiment. I think these two stamps go nicely together. They were inked with Versafine, Satin Red and Spanish Moss. Lastly, addded pearls from Recollections.

I have no cards, crafts or creativity to share today. I am exhausted. My electricity has been out for three days. I have spent the last two nights at my Mother's home, where she had no phone service, and I slipped on the ice while taking my dog outside. Oh, and did I mention, my poor old dog, Jenny, had surgery on Monday. I have now returned to my own home, but had to throw out all of my food, and go to the grocery store for more.

I have certainly lost my MOJO for the moment, and I am just thankful to sleep in my warm home tonight.

This card is for three challenges. The Moxie Fab Color Inspiration for Card Makers Week, Metallic Challenge; The weekly CardPatterns Sketch #99 Challenge; and the current monthly Hero Arts Challenge.

And here is my card based on page 17 of the new 2011 Hero Arts catalog. I love the way the samples included unique and contrasting backgrounds together with flowers. I thought I would give it a try.

For this card I used a soft pink paper called, Pink Pearl. It is from my scraps, and I am not sure of the manufacturer. Unfortunately, the photo does not show the soft shimmer of this paper. I also used a scrap of gold paper for the circle. All the stamps are from Hero Arts. The two background stamps, Graph Background and Daisy Reverse Pattern were both embossed with Ranger, Queen's Gold. The flower in the circle is a new Hero Arts cling stamp, Bold Solid Flower. I bought this cute little cling stamp because it goes perfect with the new Daisy Reverse Pattern. The flower was stamped with Anna Griffin, Shell Pink. The circle edges were distressed with this same ink. The sentiment was stamped in Versafine, Onyx Black. Also used PTI, Scallop Border Punch, Reflections, Gold Pearls and ribbon from my stash.

My card today is for another Moxie Fab Color Inspiration for Card Makers Week, The Jewel Tones. This time they are asking us to use these cheerful, bright colors. It really makes me want warmer weather!

Papers are from Bazzill and scraps. I used one Hero Arts stamp, Made with Love. It was inked with Versafine, Deep Lagoon. Other supplies: Martha Stewart, Butterfly Punch; Fiskars, Scallop Border Punch; and Sizzix, Scallop Circle Die. I added ribbon from my stash, Hero Arts pearls, and a handmade button from my sweet friend Tina.

I just had to post my first "Silly" worksheet and tell you a little story. For this exercise, we are supposed to use our non dominant hand to draw the puppy face. Being the "nerdy" little child that I was, I thought it most unusual that we only used one hand to draw or write. I am right handed, but when I was little, I often used my left hand to write and draw. I would practice at home because I thought it was so "silly" to neglect this entire other hand. Needless to say, I am somewhat ambidextrous to this day!

Memory Pillow #2

I finished this pillow just in time. It is a Christmas gift for my Mother. The photo is a picture of my Mother in 1943.

I used one Hero Arts stamp, Kitchen Silhouette. It was stamped with VersaCraft, Brick. The photo was printed on fabric and the name and date were made with sewing machine embroidery. I am also entering my pillow in the current Hero Arts monthly color challenge.

Getting ready for Christmas

I can't believe that I have not posted for almost a month. I have been so busy. I am working on a new memory pillow to give to my Mother on Christmas. It includes Hero arts stamps and photos. Just not quite finished. I am so happy to have the whole week off next week. It has been a long time since I had a week off of work. I am planning on crafting, cooking, baking gluten free cookies and hopefully posting some new creations. My sad news, is my daughter, Sarah, has come down with the flu. She is rather ill and will not be home for Christmas. It will not be the same without her, but I want her to rest and get well. I will miss her so, but we will get together later when she is feeling better. I am so enjoying all of your wonderful Christmas creations too. Just wanted you to know, I am busy, but thinking of all my creative friends, all the time!

Tutorial for Christmas Ornaments

There was some interest in a pattern for the Christmas Ornaments I made, so I decided to put together a tutorial and include a pattern for the heart and the star. The seam allowance is ¼ inch. I prefer to make a seam in the back and then hand stitch it closed. This assures a more complete shape in the front. You can easily make your own patterns from other templates or shapes too, just remember to include a seam allowance. If you do not have a sewing machine, these could easily be sewn by hand as well.

Before stamping and die cutting, you attach your fabric to HeatnBond iron on adhesive. The instructions are included with this product. You want to be sure that your fabric is slightly larger then the adhesive sheet and also use a cover fabric when ironing. This adhesive can really mess up your iron and ironing board. If you are like me, I have one iron for clothes and another for crafting.

Next, cut your die cuts. This, too, could be many different shapes. Just remember you need an area big enough for your stamping. On the stocking, I stamped the grid stamp on printed fabric before cutting the die. This is the same principal as stamping on patterned paper. I thought this would be easiest, but I guess you could do it ether way. You may want to experiment with inking on the fabric before you actually decide, because some fabrics do not take ink as well as others.

After cutting your pattern and dies, then comes the stamping. I used VersaCraft ink because it is recommended for fabric. I let mine dry over night before assembling the ornament. Once everything is dry, you but the right sides together and sew. I used ribbon for the ties, but again you could use string or almost anything. I like to sew them into the seam. This can get a little tricky. Just make sure you pin it away from the entire seam.

Next comes the stuffing. I used quilt batting because that is what I had on hand. You need to gently poke the stuffing to form the shape, and then sew the back. I hand sewed the bells, pearls and button. The button was added, before I sewed the heart together. The smaller pearls were glued on at the end.

Thanksgiving on 49th Street

As I look at this picture, I remember so many wonderful times at my Grandmother's house. Of course, my Father is taking the photo, and my Grandmother is in the very back. She looks a little tired, and I now realize why. It is not easy to put together a big family meal. I love carrying on this tradition and making new memories. I have been baking and chopping most of the day. The hardest part for me right now, is not eating all the toasted pecans. They are for the green beans. My 16 year old dog, Jenny, usually sleeps all day but today she is dutifully guarding the oven! I will probably not have time to post tomorrow, so I wish you and your families a Happy Thanksgiving!

Christmas Ornaments

These ornaments were easy to make with fabric scraps, basic shapes, Hero Arts stamps and die cuts. It is also a fun way to use all those little stamps that come with the clear design sets. I think this qualifies for the current Hero Arts monthly challenge, Gift Tags and Handmade Gifts. I am planning on giving them to coworkers.

Here is a close up of the Heart Ornament, The stocking has a pocket to insert money, candy or any small item. I am entering this in the current Caardvarks challenge.

All stamps are Hero Arts and were stamped with VersaCraft ink. The die cuts are both Sizzix and Nestabilities and were adhered with HeatnBond iron on adhesive. Of course I had to add some buttons, pearls and bells.

This time I wanted to try something more simple and one layer. I used a shiny cardstock that I bought at Michaels. I am not sure of the manufacturer. I masked the triangles that were cut with a Nestabilities and inked them in Encore, Satin Rose. The two stamps are from Hero Arts and were stamped with Versamark and embossed with Ranger, Copper. Added pearls.

This is my entry for the current Embellish Vintage Color Challenge. I love Vintage, so I had to give it a try. I love this color combination too.

Papers are from Sassafras and Recollections. I used two Hero Arts stamps. The Holly Flourish was clear embossed, and then inked with Tim Holtz Rusty Hinge and Vintage Photo. The sentiment was embossed in Ranger, Copper. The ornament is a chipboard tag painted with Tim Holtz Crackle Paint, Peeled Paint. I added one of my Grandmother's vintage buttons, ribbon and green pearl.

I am still experimenting with my new Hero Arts stamp, A Village. I think this stamp has so many possibilities. This time, I stamped on paper by ScenicRoute and embossed in gold. The Holiday Wishes stamp was also embossed in gold and then colored with Prismacolor pencils, and the edges were inked with Tim Holtz, Vintage Photo. The red patterned paper is from The Paper Company. Added ribbon and pearls.

I finally had some time to make another Christmas card. This one is for the Hero Arts monthly challenge, Holiday Cardmaking.

The papers are from BasicGrey and from my scraps. I used some of my old Hero Arts stamps and some of my new ones as well. I wanted it to look like a night scene, so I inked the Village stamp in Versafine, Smokey Gray. The Starry Sky stamp was embossed with Ranger, Queens Gold. I needed a tree branch to fit the scene so I drew it myself, and filled in with the Designer Woodgrain stamp. I stamped it with black and used two of Tim Holtz Distress inks to give shadow and dimension. (VintagePhoto and Pumice Stone) The owl and the sentiment were also stamped in black and the owl was colored with Prismacolor pencils and Gamsol. Added ribbon and holly.

All Hero Arts stamps. The main image, Life Changes, was stamped with Versafine, Vintage Sepia; and the Screen Shadow was embossed with Adirondack, Mushroom. The background was masked and inked with Encore Ultimate Metallic, Blue. Added blue gems.

This card is for three different events. The Mojo Monday sketch challenge here, and the Hero Arts Monthly Challenge, Everything Autumn. I am also going to be sending this card to Operation Write Home. Hero Arts is having a virtual card making weekend party to collect cards for this wonderful cause. I hope to be able to make more over the next few days, but might not be able to photograph and post them all.

I am experimenting once again with masking with frisket film. I used all Hero Arts stamps, Large Plaid Pattern, Real Leaves and Cleardesign Thinking of You. The plaid stamp was clear embossed and then inked with Versafine, Habanero, Vintage Sepia, Spanish Moss and Toffee. I used the same inks to create the background, and the leaf. The sentiment was inked in the Vintage Sepia.

Hello. If you are part of the Hero Arts Flickr Blog Hop, you have come to the right place. I am a big fan of Hero Arts. Their stamps are the best, and the company is so generous, educational and inspiring. My project today combines my old love of sewing, with my new love of stamping.

This is a Christmas gift for my Aunt Pat. She is the little girl in the middle. I printed the photo on fabric and made a patchwork border. The corner patches were stamped with Hero Arts stamp CL383, Antique Engravings. I used VersaCraft ink, Real Black, and heat set the images. I think the Antique Engravings make the perfect accent for this photo. The photo was taken in 1945 and I have machine embroidered the date and names. I hope to continue experimenting with stamping on fabric, so be sure and stop here again!

I discovered this fun on line class. It sounds like just what I need, so I had to give it a try. Just read some of the comments from other participants. Keeping in Touch

This month on the Hero Arts blog the challenge is Keeping in Touch and Back to School. They also included a category for Making a Stationery Set. I have wanted to make a set of note cards for my Mother for quite some time. She will be 91 years old in October and doesn't have the ability to get out often. With the encouragement from my creative friends, especially Lin, I have completed two sets. I have been experimenting with masks ever since I cut the Peace Sign here.

I cut the mask for this set with Frisket Film and a Nestabilities die. I inked the area with Versafine, Spanish Moss, Versafine Toffee and my new favorite Encore Ultimate Metalic, Blue. I love the air brush effect. I then stamped the Hero Arts images with the same inks and partially embossed with Ranger copper embossing powder. Added the sentiment, also from Hero Arts, Enjoy the Moments. The sentiment was also inked with Versafine, Toffee. Finally, added brown pearls.

This set uses the same masking technique, but different inks. I used the Hero Arts set, Leaf Patterns, for stamping. Although it took a little more planning, waiting and continuing, I am happy with my sets. Thank you Hero Arts for inspiring me to do something I have never done before!

I have so much PP that I have to start using it. This paper is from CherryArte. I used two Hero Arts stamps. Scattered Flowers and a new set called Just Find Me. The sentiment was inked with Versafine, Vintage Sepia, and the Scattered Flowers stamp was embossed in white. Scattered Flowers is one of my favorites. I have used it many times. Also used Martha Stewart border punch, Nestabilities and Cuttlebug embossing folder.

This is my entry for the
Moxie Fab World Challenge, Signs of Peace.
I am a bit of an old "hippie" so I had to give it a try, and yes, I turned it into a Christmas card.

Papers are from scraps. The background stamp is Hero Arts, Stunning Snowflakes and was embossed in white. I then cut a mask of the piece sign and inked it over top with Encore, Ultimate Metallic Blue. It has a sheen but isn't photographing too well. The trees were cut with a punch from EK Success. The sentiment is from a PTI set, Believe and was embossed in silver. Added ribbon.

My Love of Dolls

I made this first doll about a year ago. I just adore sewing their clothes and picking the fabrics. They were made from a Simplicity pattern, and are quite time consuming. Non the less, they are a labor of love.

I finally finished my second doll this week. I love her little romper outfit.

A Most Unusual Day

Today is a day I will remember for a while. I was awoken by a 3.6 earthquake at around 5:00 am. It sounded like someone was bowling on my roof! I know that you California folks will think nothing of this, but having never experienced this phenomenon, it was a little scarwey!

The flip side of this day, is I won a random prize in the Color Throwdown 100th celebration blog hop! YEAH! It was a fun hop and the best part was seeing and meeting these wonderful creative people! Papers are from Making Memories and Hot Off the Press. Digital image is from Heather Ellis and was colored with Prismacolor Pencils and Gamsol. Background stamp is Make a Wish Birthday from Hero Arts and was embossed in white. The number three is also from Hero Arts. It is one of their digital kits, Stripey Numbers. I am slowly starting to experiment with the digital kits, and I think this number set has so many possibilities. Added faux stitching and ribbon. The oval was cut with a Nestabilities die.

Jerusalem

I was so pleased when I saw that this months Hero Arts challenge included the topic of travel. I have had this layout in my head for sometime, and this was just the push I needed to complete it. I spent part of my junior year in college at Betsalel School of Art in Jerusalem. That is me riding the camel. Israel, and especially Jerusalem, is so spiritual, historic and beautiful. I have many fond memories of that time in my life. I think the Hebrew alphabet is so graphic and interesting, that I decided to use it for my title. (Jerusalem). I enlarged the Hebrew title from a map and then cut the letters out. The tower of David was cut from a mask that I made from another one of my photos. I added a closeup so you can read the text. The camel is seated on the ground when you sit in the saddle. But when he stands up, he is so much higher then a horse. I will never forget it. I think you can tell by the look on my face.

I used papers from Creative Imaginations and scraps. All the stamps are from Hero Arts. The border is an EK Success punch and the photo corners were painted with Tim Holtz Crackle Paint, Tarnished Brass. Added brad from Making Memories. The photo in the top right is from a postcard and is framed with a Sizzix die, slide mount.

I used a Ranger, Prefect Medium embossing pen on the white areas and embossed in white. I colored his face with Prismacolor Pencils. The sentiment is from Hero Arts and was stamped in Versafine, Onyx Black. The background trees were cut with a border punch from EK Success. Added ribbon from Michael's and poinsettias from Making Memories.

This is my take on the current Mojo Monday Sketch. http://mojomonday.blogspot.com/2010/06/mojo-monday-144.html I have been struggling with a bit of stress at work, and I have not felt terribly creative lately. One thing that always lifts my spirits, is Christmas. I decided to get a start on my Christmas cards. It is my favorite time of year, and I wanted to use my new stamps from PTI. They are a gift from my Flickr friend, Tina. It is such an adorable set.

The background patterned papers are from My Minds Eye, and the others are from my scraps. The tree and the sentiment are from the PTI stamp set, Believe. The tree was stamped with Versafine, Smokey Gray. It is a new favorite of mine. It has the detail of black but not so dark. The sentiment was stamped with Versafine, Toffee. The birdie is from another of my favorite Christmas stamps from Hero Arts, Holiday Birds. It was also stamped in Toffee. The ribbon is from Michael's and the pearls are from Recollections. I used so many for this card that I need to buy some more. I love pearls on cards!

This photo of my father will always stay in my heart. This is how I will always remember him. Busy, curious and making something. I followed him around most of my youth. He was the most influential person in my life. He built boats, he grew grapes and made wine, he flew planes, he taught me photography, he fixed everything. He passed away 27 years ago and I still miss him. I love you, Daddy!

My greatest joy in joining the Hero Arts Blog and finding the amazing Flickr Group, is the creative friends I have met. This group brings together artists all over the world. I received these two gorgeous cards from two of my new international friends.

Just sharing a photo of my daughter, Sarah and my son, Daniel. They were home together on Memorial Day weekend. I was very happy to have them here along with a few of their friends. Dan will be 27 this year, and Sarah will be 25. They are, and will always be, the loves of my life. I have been reading so many blog posts from young mothers that I just felt compelled to say how quickly time goes by. Before you know it, your children leave kindergarten, go off to college, and then you can't wait to have them home again.

This is my entry for this weeks Card Patterns challenge. I think this sketch has lots of possibilities, and it spoke to me!

All of the papers are from Bazzill. I used three Hero Arts stamps. The background panel is Four Leaf Grid, and was inked with Hero Arts Shadow Ink, Soft Brown. The duck is a new stamp, Just Ducky, and was stamped with Versafine, Vintage Sepia. I like the country, folk look of this duck stamp and will definitely be trying it again soon. The sentiment is from Sparkle Clear, Love That. It was also stamped with Vintage Sepia. I did some sewing machine stitching and added a chipboard heart. The heart was painted with Tim Holtz Crackle Paint, Vintage Photo. Lastly added basic white ribbon from Michael's and a button in my stash.

This is my second entry for the current Hero Arts monthly challenge, Birthdays, Grads and Dads. I like the funky look of classic etched images against ledger paper. It is an interesting contrast, and I think it makes for a fun card.

The ledger paper is from KI Memories, Love Elsie. I used two Hero Arts stamps. The sentiment is from Big Candles and was stamped with Versafine Onyx Black. The strawberries are from Engraved Fruits and they were stamped with Versafine, Smokey Gray. The border was cut with a Fiskars border punch and lastly added Hero Arts green pearls and a basic ribbon from Michaels.

I decided to try another shabby card. I was going for a vintage wallpaper look. I may have gone a little overboard with the distressing, but I honestly like the vintage feel.

The striped paper is from Paperpizazz, and the others are from scraps. I used two Hero Arts stamps: Wavy Line Pattern and Life Changes. Both were stamped with Versafine, Vintage Sepia. I used Tim Holtz, Frayed Burlap, distress ink to warm up the images. The sheet music is a photocopy, and the old photograph is actually a picture of my Aunt Connie and her friend, also a photocopy. I would never cut these wonderful original photos. My Grandmother was a seamstress and saved every button she ever had. I am now the lucky owner of quite a collection of vintage buttons.

This is my entry for the current Hero Arts monthly challenge, Birthdays, Dads and Grads. I love this Hero Arts stamp set. It is so whimsical and graphic that it can easily be used all on its own. This is a rather simple card for me, but I like it and it works because of these cute candles!

I used one stamp set from Hero Arts, Big Candles. The candles were embossed with Ranger, Queens Gold, and the sentiment was stamped with Versamark, Onyz Black. The papers are from my scraps and the pieces behind the candles were cut with a Sizzix die.

National Scrapbooking Day

She had a baby boy in March and I am finally going to see her today. His name is Bradley. Since it is National Scrapbooking Day I decided to make a page for her to complete. She is my scrapbooking buddy, and I know how difficult it can be to find time to make layouts when you have a new infant. All she has to do is add photos and journaling.

I used a number of Hero Arts stamps and Sizzix dies. It is a pretty simple layout and the frames are not attached so she can insert her photos. Unfortunately my photo is not the best, and I think it actually looks better in person.

Another card for the monthly challenge on the Hero Arts Blog, Home and Mother's Day. I decided to try using the embossed layered resist technique with my Silhouette Vase stamp one more time. Practice makes perfect. Right? I used a very muted color pallet this time and only two distress inks.
I am happy with the way it turned out.

The papers are from Bazzill. The Silhouette Vase stamp was embossed with clear embossing powder and inked with Tim Holtz Distress Inks, Tattered Rose and Pumice Stone. The sentiment is actually from Holiday Sayings. It works perfectly and you would never know that it came from a Christmas set. It was inked with Versamark, Smokey Gray. One could easily personalize this greeting inside. The three stone etchings are from the free Hero Arts digital kit. I sized and recolored them in Photoshop. Lastly added Hero Arts pearls.

Take Time to Savor

This is my entry for the current EBTKS challenge. I have been waiting for an opportunity to use this cute little dogie stamp from Hero Arts. I like the way this turned out. He looks so wise!

Papers are from K & Co. and scraps. All the stamps are from Hero Arts. Clouds (S5215) was stamped with Anna Griffin, Robin's Egg. It is such a pretty blue and my favorite for sky. Friendly Pup (F5168) was stamped with Versafine, Toffee. The sun and grass are from Be Happy (CL377). The sun was also stamped with Toffee, and the grass was stamped with Memento, Cottage Ivy. I used a tip to stamp the grass from Marianna Grisby that she posted on her blog: http://marianagrigsby.wordpress.com/2010/04/15/be-happy-tutorial/ Worked like a charm! The sentiment is Take Time to Savor (G5374) and was also stamped with Cottage Ivy. Added ribbon from Michael's. To cut the curved clouds, I ran the card partway through with a Nestabilites oval. A little tricky, but it worked.

This is my entry for the weekly Card Patterns sketch challenge. I decided to go a little shabby. I like the way it turned out. It reminded me of the old verse, "Make new friends, but keep the old. One is silver and the other gold." I think this was a Girl Scout song.

The papers are from S.E.I. and scraps. All stamps are from Hero Arts. The background is (S518) Modern Lines and was stamped with Versafine, Toffee. The Bold Flourish (S5146) was embossed with Ranger, Queens Gold. The insert in the circle was printed from the Hero Arts digital friends stamp and the color was changed in Photoshop. I actually made a pretty good match. The flowers were cut with a Sizzix die and the circle was cut with Friskars. Lastly, added yellow gems from K and Co. and roughed up the paper with an emery board to show some of the white core.
