Chapter six - Summer Flowers

My grandmother, Jessie was quite the gardener.  She had a lovely vegetable garden every summer.  It was surrounded by a white picket fence with a center brick path that led to a brick grill.  In addition she grew beautiful flowers.  Hydrangeas and peonies had huge blooms, and gorgeous pampered roses. I am so fortunate that the home I recently moved into has a great deal of blooming gifts. Someone planted many flowers.  It was a bit neglected, but I am so enjoying bringing it back to life.  I am blessed with a bed of fragrant Lilies of the Valley, and my grandmother's garden had Lilies of the Valley, too. They are one of my favorite flowers.  I love the delicate little bells and and the intoxicating fragrance.

My sister, Marcia and I loved to pick the flowers.  In this funny old photo, we were planning a wedding.  I am the reluctant bride at the top right. My sister and her friends were the bridesmaids with Hydrangeas in their hair.

  1. You are so fortunate to have found a new home with a built-in garden just waiting for some TLC, Nancy! I often wonder what will happen to our gardens once we move away from our house; kids today just don't seem to care anymore about having a garden.......In any case, your flower cards today made me smile BIG! thank you!
